Frequently Asked Questions
Will GRAVITY work for me?
The GRAVITY system has a great success rate in assisting with a range of issues from general back and neck pain to conditions such fibromyalgia, scoliosis and stenosis. Give it a go and see what it can do for you!
When should I use GRAVITY?
GRAVITY can be used anywhere, anytime! Many customers use the device in the morning to prepare for the day ahead. There are also those who prefer to relax on GRAVITY at the end of the day to release any stress which has built up and to promote restful sleep. Customers also use GRAVITY before or after exercise, you may even see people relaxing on GRAVITY in a train station or airport before or after travelling.
Where Should I use GRAVITY?
GRAVITY needs to be used on a firm base, so a carpeted floor is ideal, but you could lie on a yoga mat, the beach, grass, or a therapy table if you have one. A bed is usually too soft for GRAVITY to be effective. However, if you find getting down to floor level difficult you could use a plastic or wooden board on your bed to create a firmer surface.
How long should Gravity be used for?
On average, we recommend a session of 20 minutes as this is a good amount of time to unwind and relax. Some users feel they need to build up to 20 minutes during their first few sessions and this is completely normal as it is a lot for your body to adjust to. There is no maximum length of time for a GRAVITY session and you can even use it more than once a day. If you are particularly tense, the longer the session the better!
Will GRAVITY fit me?
GRAVITY is a one-size-fits-all system to ensure that everyone can benefit from this powerful device. Depending on your size and preference for impact, you may wish to play around with the keystone and use the side which most suits you. Check out the different options here.
What should I do if GRAVITY feels uncomfortable or painful?
The key to using GRAVITY is to relax. If GRAVITY feels uncomfortable throughout a session, make small adjustments to find the perfect position for you, or you could try the following things;
- Check if you are using GRAVITY correctly by reading the User Guide or see our how to use page.
- Place the black velvet GRAVITY bag over the cradle to give your head added cushion during the first few sessions or put some moisturiser on the cradle to help your head slip into a comfortable position
- Make sure to relax your shoulders and neck as this can push your head up into the cradle and make it feel uncomfortable
- If at first you find the keystone too firm, you can separate the white plastic from the soft blue mat and lie only on the blue mat until you feel comfortable using the keystone together in the standard way
- Make sure your legs are supported either with a bolster of some kind under your knees, with your legs up on a chair or your feet firmly flat on the floor and knees bent
If, however, you are finding GRAVITY painful rather than uncomfortable, stop for this session. If the pain persists, please contact our medical team.
We would like to mention that not all GRAVITY customers feel the ‘instant relief’ they are often expecting and that sometimes the benefits of GRAVITY can take a couple of sessions/days/weeks to be felt, especially for those suffering with longstanding conditions or chronic pain.
I don't feel as though GRAVITY is working for me, is there anything I can do?
We often think that lying on GRAVITY for 20 minutes is the same as lying on GRAVITY and relaxing for 20 minutes. The key to using GRAVITY is to relax as you can still feel stressed and hold onto tension while lying down.
Once you are able to relax during your GRAVITY session you allow your body to open up and allow the device to begin its work. There are several things you can do to help with feeling more relaxed before and during a GRAVITY session;
- Take a hot bath or shower before a session
- Do some shoulder shrugs to make sure your shoulders are loosened up and relaxed
- Ensure you are comfortable – warm, fed and hydrated
- Listen to music/relaxing sounds
- Ensure you have chosen time when you won’t be interrupted
In truth GRAVITY cannot help everyone. While we are very pleased with the high percentage of customers with extremely positive feedback and stories, we do know that there is a small percentage of customers who sadly do not find the benefits from the device that they were hoping for. We aim to help as many people as possible!
Is GRAVITY suitable for children?
Any Children over 13 years old and taller than 4ft 6” who are generally active and with no long-term health issues should be able to use the GRAVITY system. However, if you have any reason for concern please contact our medical team.
Can I use the keystone or cradle on its own?
To fully benefit from the effects of the GRAVITY device, you should use both the keystone and the cradle at the same time. The two GRAVITY pieces will not give the same results in terms of repair and relaxation unless used together in the standard way.
I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, would GRAVITY help me?
Calcium tissue deposits are what cause pain for those suffering with Fibromyalgia, as this solidifying of calcium irritates your nerves and creates pain within your muscles. GRAVITY can be very beneficial as it relaxes your muscles and in turn releases built up tension, thereby relieving pain.
I have Parkinson's, could GRAVITY help me?
Shane is currently working closely with a number of Parkinson’s patients and we have ongoing studies into the effect of the GRAVITY system on those patients. We are delighted so far with the results as many customers talk of improved balance. With this in mind, a Parkinson’s patient could well help their balance and improve kinetic control with regular GRAVITY sessions, which could also improve their rest and muscular fatigue.
I have a slipped disc, is GRAVITY the answer?
The incidence of a prolapsed disc, a slipped disc or even a ruptured disc can of course be your source of pain, but it is important that this is agreed on by your doctor with an X-Ray or MRI. Tense muscles, dehydrated muscles, spasm in soft tissue and irritation caused by trigger points due to other factors must all be investigated first. If however a slipped or prolapsed disc has been properly diagnosed by your doctor, GRAVITY can be very effective in relieving pain as it continues to keep you completely relaxed and educates your body back to its proper, relaxed and better postured state.
Will GRAVITY help me? I have scoliosis.
Scoliosis is a bending of the spine. Lying on GRAVITY can help return the body to a neutral position and sustain it. Severe congenital scoliosis is something that you should discuss with your specialist. Watch our video for more information.
Can GRAVITY help with Stenosis?
Foraminal stenosis is a really painful condition but the tension around the stenosis can be often due to muscular tension. By helping to release the tension GRAVITY can affect the stenosis, relieving the pain by association. Many users of GRAVITY have had successful relief of pain, since the objective of the GRAVITY system is to encourage space and correct tension in the soft tissue by gently holding the neck and the lower back in a controlled and not forced light traction. The neural element of the stenosis that causes the pain may well be changed through use of GRAVITY.
Can GRAVITY help with my headache/migraines?
Over 90% of migraine sufferers report neck tension or pain before or during a migraine attack. GRAVITY gently opens up the neck and head and creates the perfect position to reduce tension and increase blood supply. With regular sessions, less tension is present, and many sufferers report a significant decrease in the rate, severity and duration of headaches and migraines.
Does GRAVITY help with relaxation & stress?
It’s hard to breathe with forward head posture and it’s hard to relax if you’re not breathing properly. GRAVITY retrains your head and neck to sit in their natural and neutral position, allowing you to breathe more deeply and release tension you may be holding on to. Think of GRAVITY as your time out to practice deep relaxation. During your session GRAVITY will help you to calm your mind and reduce stress which could improve your quality of sleep and your posture, in turn making you feel more positive.
How can GRAVITY help the digestive system?
Used regularly, GRAVITY naturally takes your body out of a slouched position and retrains better posture, which provides many benefits including added energy and a better functioning digestive system.
How can GRAVITY help with sports and an active lifestyle?
With a lot of sports, the better the head position the better the performance. In running and sports which involve running such as football or rugby, the neck and head have an impact on gait and this can make all the difference in terms of how you move across a pitch or along a track. GRAVITY connects the head with the rest of the body and works on improving your posture, allowing your head to stay in the perfect position for your sport.
With sports such as hockey, golf and skiing it’s all about balance and fluidity of movement so that you can distribute power from one place in your body to another with speed and accuracy. GRAVITY joins your head, spine and hips, allowing perfect alignment of the body and the feeling of smooth connected movements.
GRAVITY comes into its own with high impact sports which often leave you feeling knocked around after a game. While it works as an injury prevention tool during a warm up, it also gives you crucial time to rest and repair post sport. GRAVITY promotes blood flow to the whole body, aiming to speed up recovery and reduce the impact of shock and damage.
